Check out our radio show today.
It’s a message called “The Perfect Storm,” recorded live right on the sea of Galilee.

There is something about hearing the words of Jesus spoken from the place where they actually happened that really get your attention. I remember how energized I was when I gave this message that you will hear that beautiful morning in the Holy land. There is also some outstanding production value in this show, which can be described as “theatre of the mind” that was done by our amazing producer, Dave Spiker.

I think today’s show could be very encouraging to anyone who is going through any kind of hardship or difficulty.

Finally, we are offering an amazing video teaching series that we just released. We call it “Hope from the Holy Land” and is full of video that we shot with HD cameras in Israel. Segments range from the video version of today’s radio message, to an early morning walk through the streets of Jerusalem as we retrace the steps of Jesus to the Cross. One of the most exciting features is our message from the “Garden Tomb” in Israel, believed by many to be the actual spot where Jesus Christ rose from the dead. We were given exclusive access to the site before the normal crowds arrived and I was deeply moved as I preached there.

You can hear the radio program by going here
You can access our “Hope from the Holy Land” offer by going here

This weekend at Harvest in Riverside, I am speaking on the topic of worry. Worry is really one of the worst things we can do. It never helps. In fact, it always hurts! Worry is a kind of a mental and emotional strangulation which probably causes more mental and physical illness then any other cause.

Worry is worthless.
It’s been said, “worry is a lot like a rocking chair… always moving but never getting anywhere!” Worry is the interest paid on trouble before it is due. Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.

Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones said, “The result of worrying about the future is that you are crippling yourself in the present.”

Can it be overcome?
So, how do you overcome worry? What should we do instead of worrying?

Come on out to Harvest this Sunday to find out or tune in online for our webcast at http://www.harvest.org.

“After this, the armies of the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites declared war on Jehoshaphat. Messengers came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast army from Edom is marching against you from beyond the Dead Sea. They are already at Hazazon-tamar.” …Jehoshaphat was alarmed by this news and sought the Lord for guidance. He also gave orders that everyone throughout Judah should observe a fast. So people from all the towns of Judah came to Jerusalem to seek the Lord. “(2 Chronicles 20:1-4, nlt)

Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, faced a terrifying dilemma.
His enemies greatly outnumbered him.
To make matters worse, his enemies had joined forces with Judah’s other enemies and were coming to destroy him.
One day, someone came to King Jehoshaphat and warned him that a gigantic army was headed his way, bent on his destruction. It was hopeless. There was no way that he could meet this mighty army with what he had. It looked for all the world like doomsday for the little nation of Judah.

What to do in times of Crisis.

What did Jehoshaphat do? The Bible says that he “O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.” (2 Chronicles 20:12, nlt).
The Lord told Jehoshaphat, “Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s…. But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out there tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!” (2 Chronicles 20:15, 17, nlt).

Praise God!

Jehoshaphat and his army went out to meet their enemies, but they put the worship team out in front of the soldiers! The Bible says that when they began to sing and praise the Lord, the enemy started fighting among themselves and destroyed each other.
Maybe you are facing what seems like an impossible situation right now.
You may not be able to see a way out. But God can. Call on Him. Then stand still and see what He will do

That is the epitaph what you could write on countless American tombstones.

We are always rushing about, filled with stress and worry. Tonight, I will be speaking on the topic of anxiety and worry. It is a part of our “Worldview” series where we are learning to think and live biblically. We all know how easy it can be to be preoccupied with things we fear may happen.

Most of it never happens.

Know this- most of what we worry about never actually happens. Dr. Walter Cavert reported a survey on worry that indicated that only 8% of the things people worried about were legitimate matters of concern. The other 92% were either imaginary, never happened, or involved matters over which people had no control anyway!

So, if you struggle with worry and anxiety, come and check it out. For those unable to attend, I will give this same message this weekend in Riverside at all four services and it will be webcast live on www.harvest.org.

“He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. “(1 John 2:6, nkjv)

The word “walking” speaks of regularity, of moving at a certain pace.
The Bible tells us in Genesis 5 about Enoch, who walked with God. But what does it mean to “walk with God?” Is it just a religious cliché?
The prophet Amos asked, “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3).
The idea is to be walking in pace with someone, in harmony with another.

Walking with my Wife.

I have a problem with this when I walk with my wife. I always walk a little faster than she does. I will walk ahead. I’ll stop.
Then she will catch up with me. So I’ll try to walk more slowly, but the next thing I know, I’m walking fast again.
When it comes to walking with God, some of us want to run ahead of Him. Others of us lag behind. We need to move in harmony with Him. We need to stay close to Him, and make a continual commitment to do so. Referring to our daily relationship with God’s Holy Spirit, the New Testament says, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25, niv).

Keep in Step with the Spirit.

But what does this mean in practice? How do we do this? What does it look like to “keep in step with the Spirit”?
It means we take time for the things of God. It means when we get up in the morning, we take time to read the Bible.
If we neglect the Word of God, it will show in our lives. Abiding in Jesus also means that we spend time in fellowship with God’s people.

Make Time!

Make time for the things of God. Don’t wait for time to simply materialize; deliberately carve out room in your schedule.
If it means an hour less of sleep, fine. If it means skipping a meal, okay. If it means missing a television program, so be it.
Do what you need to do, because these things are essential to spiritual growth,to abiding with God, and to bearing spiritual fruit.
And it is a walk—the best of all walks—that will bring indescribable richness to your daily life.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT)

One of the first things I remember about the day I put my faith in Christ was the sense of peace filling my heart. It was as though someone had lifted a heavy burden from me.

It wasn’t until later, when I read the Bible, that I learned about God’s promise of peace to every believer. He has given it to us as a gift.

This peace, however, doesn’t come from what or who we are, but from what God has done—how He has justified us in response to our faith. A wonderful byproduct of this reality is a deep inner peace that floods our soul.

You can’t just live as you please

But we can’t have this beautiful effect without the beginning cause. If we are fighting with God—resisting His plan and purpose for our lives—then we won’t experience this supernatural peace.

I think many people would like to have the desirable results and benefits of the Christian life without having to pay the price. In other words, they would like to know that they are forgiven and going to heaven when they die, but they still want to live as they please. They don’t want to put their complete faith and trust in Jesus.

That sort of attitude just won’t fly. We can’t have the pleasing, life-transforming privileges of God’s peace without first meeting God’s requirements. Scripture tells us through Jesus Christ, “God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross” (Colossians 1:20 NLT).

The only way

The only way we will experience the peace of God that passes all human understanding is through the blood of the cross, the blood that Jesus shed.

You cannot have the peace of God until you first have peace with God.
